The Lady Blues earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA South Central Region tournament and will play seventh-seeded West Georgia Thursday in Kirksville, Mo., in a first round match. Washburn (34-3) is making its fourth straight trip to the NCAA tournament and fifth in school history.
Washburn, ranked No. 6 in the nation, will take on the Wolves (27-11) for the third time in series history. The series is tied 1-1 with the Lady Blues winning in 2005 at a neutral-site tournament. UWG earned an automatic bid to the tournament with a win in the Gulf South Conference tournament while the Lady Blues earned an at-large berth.
The winner of the match will play Friday against the No. 3 West Florida/No. 6 Central Missouri winner for a chance to play for the regional championship and a trip to the Elite Eight.
The top seed in the region went to Truman, setting up a match with No. 8 Albany State. The other first round match will feature Pittsburg State against Emporia State.
Game times for all the matches will be announced later this week by host school Truman.
