November 10, 2007-- The #23 Emporia State Men's basketball team knocked off the Hornets Alumni in exhibition play 110-101. ESU rolled out a 59-46 lead at the break behind .667 shooting while the Alumni shot .424 from the field. The Alumni outscored the Hornets 55-51 in the second half as they held on for the victory. The Hornets finished the night .586 from the field while the Alumni finished .516.
The Hornets were led by Wes Book who had 35 points and five rebounds and was one of four Hornets in double figures. DeAndre Townsend had 29 points while Marvin Lee had 21 points to go along with six rebounds. Caleb Tegtmeier also finished the night in double figures with 10 points and two rebounds.
For the Alumni Robbie Ballard scored 24 points and was 11 of 11 from the free-throw stripe. Ed Desir also came up with 24 points to go along with six rebounds while Shawn Herrman added 15 and Tyrell Sledge added 13 points for the Hornet Alumni.
The Hornets will start the regular season with a non-conference game against Eastern New Mexico on Nov. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. from WL White Auditorium in Emporia.
