SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Senior midfielder Nicole Cauzillo and freshman Katie Williams were both named to All-Big 12 teams. Cauzillo was tabbed All-Big 12 Second Team, while Williams was named to the conference's all-newcomer team.
Cauzillo, a senior from Northville, Mich., led the team in scoring this season, tallying a career-best five goals and three assists. She had three different matches this season where she collected a goal and an assist in the same contest, and recorded the game-winning goal in KU's triumph over Nebraska. This marks the first time since her first year at Kansas that she's been selected to an all-conference team.
Williams, a freshman from Houston, Texas, came on strong at the end of the season, providing three goals in KU's final two victories. After an injury to junior Jenny Murtaugh in the third match of the season, Williams started and played every minute in the Jayhawks' final 16 contests. The freshman also scored game-winning goals against Iowa State and 18th-ranked Missouri.
In all, 33 players were honored by the Big 12. Texas A&M led the way with seven all-conference selections including Offensive Player of the Year Ashlee Pistorius. Texas' Kasey Moore was named Defensive Player of the Year, while Missouri's Alysha Bonnick garnered Newcomer of the Year. Missouri head coach Bryan Blitz was named the conference's Coach of the Year.
Kansas (7-9-4, 5-2-3 Big 12) will play Oklahoma State in the first round of the Big 12 Championship Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in San Antonio.
