November 3, 2007-- The #17 Emporia State volleyball team finished the season 25-7 with a 3-0 win over Missouri-Rolla in Kirksville, Mo. on Saturday. ESU won the first game 30-25 before rolling to a 30-18 and 30-8 win in games two and three. The Hornets hit .419 for the match while they held Rolla to .176 hitting.
Three Hornets finished in double figure kills as Arica Shepard came up with 16, while Megan Koster had 13 and Mary Walczuk had 11 kills. Shepard's streak of 20 kill matches comes to an end at five as she added four blocks in the effort and was responsible for 20.5 of the Hornet points. Amy Byfield added 18 kills for the Hornets while Hannah Carter added four blocks of her own. Ting Liu had 47 assists for the Hornets in the win.
ESU will now return home for the first round of the MIAA post-season tournament starting on November 6. First serve of their opening match with Northwest Missouri State will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from White Auditorium.
