KU Soccer Earns #3 Seed In Big 12 Tournament

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas found out Friday evening that it has finished tied for third in the Big 12 regular season standings and will be the No. 3 seed at the Big 12 Soccer Championship, which begin Wednesday in San Antonio, Texas. KU will meet sixth-seeded Oklahoma State in the 7:30 p.m. match.

This marks the highest seeding KU has received at the tournament since entering as the No. 1 seed in 2004. The Jayhawks and the Cowgirls tied 2-2 in the teams' regular season meeting on Oct. 12 in Lawrence.

Other first round matchups at the Big 12 Soccer Championship include Texas A&M (No. 1 seed) against Iowa State (No. 8) at 11:30 a.m.; Missouri (No. 4) against Texas Tech (No. 5) at 1:30 p.m. and Texas (No. 2) versus Colorado (No. 7) at 5:30 p.m. All matches will be played at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio.

Winners of Wednesday's matches will advance to the semifinal round, which will be held Friday at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

After a slow start to the season, the Jayhawks stormed to a 6-1-2 record over their final nine contests, including today's 2-1 triumph over No. 18 Missouri at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
