Washburn University fell to 17th ranked Emporia State Tuesday night to end their school-record 27-match game winning streak.
EMPORIA, Kan. - Washburn's school-record 27-match winning streak came to an end in a 30-28, 34-32, 34-32 loss at 17th-ranked Emporia State Tuesday night. The No. 4 Lady Blues (32-2) wrapped up the MIAA season at 12-1 and first in the MIAA West Division for the second straight year.
They will wrap up the regular season Friday at 7 p.m. against Southwest Baptist with Senior Day ceremonies taking place before the non-conference match.
Tessa Jones once again led the Lady Blues with 17 kills and added a double-double with 11 digs. She hit .260 but it was not enough as the team combined to hit .120 in the match.
Mandi Cox had eight kills and Monica Miesner added seven with 10 digs. Kate Hampson led the team with 40 assists and Erica Cowhick had 34 digs for her 100th career match with 10 or more digs.
Washburn lost for the first time since August 31 in a 3-1 decision to Nebraska-Kearney, the Lady Blues first loss of the year. The 12-1 MIAA record is the best in school history.
Jones, Cox and Cowhick will all be honored prior to the SBU match as they will play their final regular season contest at Lee Arena.
