MIAA Football Players of the Week

Xavier Omon, RB
Northwest Missouri State University

Omon, a 5-foot-11, 220-pound senior from Beatrice, Neb., scored the game-tying touchdown and recorded his 13th consecutive 100-yard rushing effort in the No. 7 Bearcats' 28-27 victory over Washburn Saturday (Oct. 27), which secured Northwest a share of the MIAA Championship.

He ran for 143 yards on 32 carries with two touchdowns. He scored the TD to knot the game 21-21, converting two fourth downs on the drive.

Omon, who needs 247 yards to become the first Division II player to crack 1,500 yards in each of his four seasons, is a graduate of Beatrice High School.

Jared Erspamer, LB
Northwest Missouri State University

Erspamer, a 6-foot-0, 235-pound senior from Omaha, Neb., had 13 tackles and was named the Bearcats' Homecoming MVP as No. 7 Northwest downed Washburn, 28-27, Saturday (Oct. 27).

Nine of his tackles were solo stops, and he was credited with 4.0 tackles for loss (3 solos, 2 assists). He also had one of his tackles on special teams for a 3-yard loss on a punt return.

He is a graduate of Millard South High School.

Mickey Masucci, K/P
Truman State University

Masucci, a 6-foot-0, 165-pound sophomore from Wildwood, Mo., made four of five field goal attempts to help the Bulldogs rally from a 21-7 halftime deficit and take at 33-30 overtime win over Emporia State Saturday (Oct. 27).

Three of his field goals came in the third quarter to cut ESU's lead to five points. After missing a 44-yard try in the waning seconds of regulation, he booted a 32-yard kick in overtime for the win.

He also made three PATs to extended his string of makes to 14.

Masucci, who had just one field goal attempt in the previous five games, is a graduate of Kennedy High School.

MIAA Volleyball Players of the Week

Jillian Ohrman, MH
University of Central Missouri

Ohrman, a 6-foot-0 senior from Independence, Mo., hit .464 (46 kills, 7 errors, 84 attempts) and averaged 5.55 points per game as the No. 8 Jennies extended their win streak to nine matches with three wins last week.

After scoring 10 points (8 kills, 1 block solo, 2 block assists) in a 3-0 home sweep of Missouri Western Wednesday (Oct. 24), Ohrman hit .667 (18-2-24) and scored 22.5 points (18 kills, 2 aces, five block assists) in a three-game sweep of St. Mary's (Texas) two nights later.

She scored 23 points (20 kills, 1 block solo, 4 block assists) and .386 (20-3-44) in a 3-1 Northwest Missouri State Saturday (Oct. 27).

Ohrman, wo has 27 matches with double-figure kills, is a graduate of William Chrisman High School and transferred to UCM from the University of Mississippi following her junior season.

Kate Hampson, S
Washburn University

Hampson, a 5-foot-7 sophomore from Fort Collins, Colo., averaged 15.46 assists and 2.69 digs as the No. 5 Lady Blues saw their win streak go to 27 matches with three wins last week.

She dished out 66 assists (16.5 apg) with 10 digs, five kills, one ace and two block assists in a 3-1 home win over Rockhurst (Mo.) Tuesday (Oct. 23).

Hampson logged the second-most assists by a Lady Blue since 1999 when she had 73 (14.6 apg) in a 3-2 win at No. 18 Pittsburg State Friday (Oct. 26). She added 10 digs, two killls, two aces and two block assists against the Gorillas.

The next day at Missouri Southern, she had 62 assists (15.5 apg), three kills, two aces, and one solo block in a 3-1 victory over the Lions.

Hampson is a graduate of Rocky Mountain High School.

Brine®/MIAA Women's Soccer Players of the Week

For the week of play ending Oct. 28

Hazel Cox, F
University of Central Missouri

Cox, a 5-foot-5 junior from Olathe, Kan., scored the game-winning goal in the Jennies' 1-0 overtime win over Truman to secure UCM a share of the MIAA regular season championship Saturday night (Oct. 27).

Her goal off a feed from sophomore F Melanie Hall in the 95th minute gave the school a share of its first league title in the sport. It was her sixth goal of the season, and third game-winner of 2007.

Cox assisted on a goal in UCM's 2-0 win over Northwest Missouri State the night before -- her team-best fourth of the year..

She is a graduate of Olathe North High School.

Casey, a 5-foot-6 enior from Olathe, Kan., posted her fifth and sixth shutouts of the season to backstop the Jennies to a share of the MIAA regular season championship last weekend.

She made two saves on four shots faced, all coming in the second half, of a 2-0 win over Northwest Missouri State Friday (Oct. 26).

In a 1-0 overtime victory over Truman the next night, she made three saves on seven shots faced.

Casey is a graduate of Olathe North High School, and transferred to UCM from Johnson County Community College.
