ISU football players charged with theft, dismissed from team

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) _ A lawyer for one of two former members of
Illinois State's football team who are facing felony theft charges
says his client wasn't involved.
ISU officials say Cameron Cyril Thompkins of Sanford, Florida
and Micha Gordon of Peoria were dismissed from the team Thursday
because of ``violations of team rules.''
Normal police say the two were involved in a theft of a fellow
student's wallet in September near the college's campus. They
weren't arrested until Thursday, when the state's attorney issued a
warrant after reviewing the case.
Thompkins' attorney says his client maintains he didn't steal
anything. Neither Gordon nor any attorney for him was immediately
available.
Gordon was a wide receiver and played in three games this season
for the Red Birds. Thompkins was a defensive back and didn't take
the field.
