After slow start, Missouri defense getting kudos

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) _ As the schedule gets tougher, so does
Missouri's defense.
Number-13 Missouri surrendered 435 yards per game through the
first four games _ second-worst among conference teams. But since
Big 12 play began, the defense has shown drastic improvement.
Missouri shut down Nebraska in a 41-6 win on October sixth.
Texas Tech came into last weekend's game with the nation's
top-ranked offense and averaging 50 points. Missouri won 41-10.
Even Missouri's only loss, 41-31 at Oklahoma on October 13th,
was largely the result of four turnovers that gave the Sooners 17
The Tigers must guard against a letdown Saturday, when they host
Iowa State. The Cyclones are 1-7 overall and 0-4 in the Big 12.
Missouri is 6-1, 2-1 in the conference.
