Both Jonel Rossbach and Ting Liu were named MIAA Athletes of the weekor Liu it is her third MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week award. She was awared the honor as she averaged 13.50 assists, 2.42 digs and hit .361 (18-5-36) as the No. 21 Hornets scored three wins, including a road victory over a higher-ranked squad. She had 61 assists (12.2 apg), six block assists, three kills and eight digs in the 3-2 win at No. 15 Pittsburg State Saturday (Oct. 20). She had 18 assists on 19 ESU kills and added three blocks in game two, as the Lady Hornets hit .410 to square the match at 1-1. Liu had a triple-double with 60 assists (15.0 apg), 10 digs and 10 kills to go with two aces and two block assists in a 3-1 win at Missouri Southern Friday (Oct. 19). She helped ESU hit .344 over final three games to rally from a 1-0 deficit. She was 5-of-6 on attacks and had 17 assists in game two -- helping the Lady Hornets hit . 459. In a home sweep of Newman (Kan.) Tuesday (Oct. 16), Liu had 41 assists (13.67 apg) with 11 digs, two aces, a block assist and five kills.
Rossbach was named the MIAA Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week. She earned the honor when she became the ninth woman in MIAA history to claim two conference cross country crowns with her second victory Saturday (Oct. 20) in Kirksville, Mo. She won the 6-kilometer race with a clocking of 22 minutes, 6.65 seconds -- nearly 36 seconds ahead of runner-up Kimi Shank of Missouri Southern. Rossbach is the first to repeat as MIAA champion since Kristin Anderson of Central Missouri did so in 2004.
