October 20, 2007--Arica Shepard recorded her fourth 20 kill match in her last five outings to lead #21 Emporia State to a 3-2, come from behind victory at #15 Pittsburg State on Saturday.

ESU was on a roller coaster as far as their hitting went for the first three games fo the match. The Hornets were held to .178 hitting in game one as they fell 30-26 to open the match. Game two was a complete reversal as Arica Shepard connected on eight kills and Megan Koster was five of seven on attacks. Ting Liu had 18 assists in the game as ESU hit .410 in the 30-25 win. As hot as the Hornets were in game two, they were ice cold in a 30-23 loss in game three. ESU hit .043 with 14 kills and 12 errors in the game.

Down 2-1, the Hornets defense came through in the final two games. ESU held PSU to under .100 hitting percentage as the Hornets won 30-24 and 15-12 to take the match. ESU had 8.0 of their season high 19.0 blocks in the final two games with Megan Koster and Brianne Boner collecting five block assists each during the final two games.

Shepard led ESU with 21 kills, 11 digs and four block assists. Koster had 14 kills on .343 hitting with 17 digs and six block assists. Boner was the third Hornet in double figure kills with 11 and added an MIAA season high 12 blocks. Ting Liu followed her triple double from Friday against MSSU with 61 assists, her fifth 60 assist match of the season.

The win was ESU's fourth this season against a nationally ranked team and gives the Hornets a two game lead over the Gorillas for home court in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. The win was also ESU's fourth victory in six five game matches this season.

The Hornets will return to White Auditorium on Thursday, Oct. 25 to take on Ft. Hays State. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
