TULSA, Okla. – Kansas State’s Antea Huljev advanced through the round of 64 during the first day of action at the ITA Central Regional at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Wednesday.
Huljev, a freshman from Velenje, Slovenia, won her third match of the fall with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Abby Buxton of Nebraska. Huljev fell in the round of 32 during the afternoon session in a three-set match with the 11th-seeded Maureen Modesto of Missouri, 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.
Two K-State athletes were set down in the opening round in three sets on Wednesday morning. Junior Katerina Kudlackova won the opening set over Maria Martinez of Kansas, 6-3, but fell in the second and third sets, 6-4 and 10-5. Sophomore Natasha Vieira dropped her opening set with the fourth-seeded Franzi Jendian of Colorado, 6-4, but rebounded to win the second set 7-6 and force a third set that ended with a 10-4 win by Jendian.
Kansas State’s Viviana Yrureta will be in action on Thursday as part of the main draw of the ITA Central Regional. Yrureta holds a 4-2 fall record and has won four of her last five matches.
