K-State Takes Second Place at Bronco Invitational

KUNA, Idaho – Senior Michelle Regan won her first collegiate title at
the Bronco Fall Invitational, and Kansas State managed to hold on to
second place as the golfers fought off wind gusts up to 50 miles per
hour on Tuesday. Three Wildcats managed to finish in the top five at
the par 72, 6,193-yard Falcon Crest Golf Course. Nebraska won the team
title with an 82-over par 946, edging K-State by 11 strokes.

“It was the windiest day I ever have coached a team in competition in my
13 years of it,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “It was just a battle
out there. They were fighting very hard and they wanted to win. I can
respect that.”

Regan entered the day with a three-stroke advantage and managed to shoot
an 82 in the windy conditions to end in a tie for first place and bring
home the win. It was Regan’s second top-20 finish of the season and her
15th of her career.

“She got off to a rocky start today,” Knight said. “But she did a good
job. She’s competitive.”

A pair of Wildcats finished in a tie for fifth. Kali Quick posted rounds
of 77, 80 and 82 for a two-day total of 23-over par 239, giving the
senior her third top-five finish in four tournaments this fall.
Sophomore Abbi Sunner tied Quick with rounds of 78, 77 and 84. It was
Sunner’s first top-five finish of the season and her third top-20
showing.

K-State was able to place a fourth golfer in the top-20, as Hailey
Mireles shot a 30-over par 246 to land in a tie for 16th.

Krista Nelson, competing as an individual, shot a 49-over par 265 to
finished tied for 52nd. Freshman Elise Houtz, playing in just her
second collegiate tournament, finished tied for 63rd after a two-day
total of 57-over par 273.

The women play their fifth and final tournament of the fall in three
weeks when they head to Kiawah Island, S.C., for the Edwin
Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 29-30.
