MANHATTAN, Kan. – Fans will get their first glimpse of the Wildcat basketball teams on Friday, Oct. 12, as the athletics department will host “Madness in Manhattan” at Bramlage Coliseum
The event, which tips-off the start of basketball season, is free and open to the general public. Doors to the arena will open at 10:30 p.m., with the event beginning as soon as most fans are in the arena.
Due to the construction of the loge premium seating, the entrances to sections 15-24 on the east side of the concourse will not be accessible to the general public. In addition, seating in these sections will be limited. All exterior entrances to the arena will be open.
Activities will begin with performances by Willie Wildcat, the Classy Cats and the K-State pep band prior to the introduction of the men’s and women’s squads. Following comments from women’s coach Deb Patterson, the Wildcat men will have a dunk contest followed by a 20-minute scrimmage. To conclude the evening, first-year men’s coach Frank Martin will address the crowd.
Fans will also have a chance to win prizes and participate in contests as well as pick up team posters and schedule cards at the event. One lucky fan will get a chance to win $10,000 in a halfcourt shot contest prior to the men’s dunk contest.
The basketball teams will host their only exhibition games of the season at Bramlage Coliseum in early November. The men’s squad will host Fort Hays State on Saturday, Nov. 3 at a time to be determined, while the women’s team will play Washburn on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
