MANHATTAN, Kan. – Following its 41-21 upset on the road at No. 7 Texas Saturday, Kansas State was named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced.
The Wildcats were given the nod by the FWAA board of directors, who awards one school out of four nominees each week for the distinction. The FWAA has given out the award since 2002 and the last three years have been sponsored by the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
K-State won the award over nominees Auburn – which upset No. 4 Florida in Gainsville, Fla. – Colorado – which upset No. 3 Oklahoma in Boulder, Colo. – and South Florida – which upended No. 5 West Virginia in Tampa, Fla.
The Wildcats are the second Big 12 team this year to receive the award as Iowa State was the team of the week for Sept. 15 after its win over Iowa.
Kansas State and Kansas will meet in the 105th renewal of the Sunflower Showdown on Saturday, Oct. 6. The game, which will be broadcasted throughout the Big 12 region on FSN, is set for 11 a.m. at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
