September 29, 2007-Emporia State fell behind 14-0 midway through the first half on the way to a 42-19 loss at Missouri Southern on Saturday night.
After Southern scored the first 14 points, ESU got on the board with on a Seville Ko one yard touchdown run. Southern scored the next 14 points including a touchdown with :08 left in the half. The Hornets would score the only points in the third quarter on a 12 yard pass from Andre Sloan El to Paul Nichols. ESU got the ball following David Diener's fumble recovery to pull within 28-13 with 10:50 left in the third. MSSU scored the next 14 points to go ahead 42-13 with 11:38 remaining in the game. ESU scored the final points on a Justin Wieser 29 yard touchdown run with 9:51 left.
The Hornets actually outgained the Lions 208 yards to 172 yards in the second half and ended the game with 334 yard of total offense. Sloan El was nine of 20 for 118 yards and a touchdown through the air and added 72 yards rushing on 18 carries for 190 yards of total offense. Weiser had 67 yards a touchdown on four carries while Ko ended with 55 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.Diener led ESU with 13 tackles and a fumble recovery.
The Hornet open a three game home stand on October 6 against Central Missouri. Kick-off from Welch Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
