TOPEKA -- The Washburn Lady Blues played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer in tying Southwest Baptist 0-0 in double overtime. In the process, Washburn regained the NCAA Division II single-game attendance record as 2,071 watched the Lady Blues and Bearcats play. Washburn will be back in action on Friday night in Yager Stadium as they will take on Missouri Southern at 7 p.m.
Washburn (5-4-2, 3-2-1 MIAA) was on the offensive in the first half as they held an 8 to 1 advantage in shots in the first half and continued the pressure with a 7 to 2 mark in the second half. But with nine shots on goal in the match, Washburn could not get one in the net.
Washburn limited the Bearcats (4-4-2, 3-2-1 MIAA) to four shots on goal and five overall in the match as Washburn's Jenny Persons picked up the tie in goal for the Lady Blues. She had four saves in the match.
SBU's Aline Lopes had eight saves for the Bearcats.
Danielle Ayala and Jessica Mainz each had five shots to pace the Lady Blues. Ayala had four shots on goal.
