Royals Hammered By White Soxs 10-0

CHICAGO (AP) -- Lance Broadway allowed two hits over six innings for his first major league win and the Chicago White Sox defeated the Kansas City Royals 10-0 on Thursday night.

Paul Konerko hit a three-run homer for the White Sox, who have won seven of their last 11 games.

The White Sox are two games ahead of the last place Royals in the AL Central. Kansas City, shut out for the second straight night and 11th time this season, has finished last in the Central in each of the last three seasons.

Staked to an early 3-0 lead in his first career start, Broadway (1-1) fooled Kansas City hitters with a sharp breaking ball. The 24-year-old right-hander ended his impressive performance by striking out Billy Butler to end the sixth inning. Broadway struck out eight and walked two.

Broadway, the 15th overall selection in the 2005 amateur draft, has been used out of the bullpen since having his contract purchased from Triple-A Charlotte on Sept. 4. He got the opportunity to start after the White Sox decided to shut down Mark Buehrle for the rest of the season after his victory Sept. 21 at Minnesota.

In the first, Royals starter Billy Buckner (1-2) gave up a single to Josh Fields and walked Jim Thome. On the next pitch, Buckner gave up Konerko's 30th home run that put the White Sox ahead 3-0. It was the fifth time Konerko has hit 30 or more home runs in a season.

In his fifth major league start, Buckner lasted six innings and allowed six runs and seven hits.

Scott Podsednik led off the second inning with a double and scored on Danny Richar's sacrifice fly.

In the fourth inning, Podsednik scored on Juan Uribe's double. Richar followed with an infield single and Uribe came around to score on Jason Smith's throwing error.

Luis Terrero hit a pinch-hit two-run RBI double in the seventh inning and A.J. Pierzynski followed with a two-run single to give the White Sox a 10-0 lead.

Gordon broke out of an 0-for-22 slump with a single in the second inning. ... Chicago last finished at the bottom of a division in 1989 when it competed in the AL West.
