CHICAGO (AP) _ Jon Garland fired a three-hitter and the Chicago
White Sox escaped the AL Central cellar by beating the last-place
Kansas City Royals 3-0.
Garland is 10-and-13 following his sixth career shutout and
first since August of last year. He allowed just three singles and
two walks while striking out two.
All three runs came via the long ball. Jim Thome (TOH'-mee)
belted his 505th career home run, a solo shot in the first inning.
Thome moved past Eddie Murray for 22nd on the all-time home run
Jermaine Dye added a two-run blast in the fourth off loser Zach
Greinke (GREHN'-kee), who's 7-and-7 after yielding three runs and
seven hits in five innings.
