FROM NOTO -- Jenny Torrence-Harris has purchased buildings next to Serendipity, and she is opening Gravity Gallery and Shops that will include retail spaces and a gallery. Britta McKee of Tobias Designs is the first artist to locate in the building. Next door is the opening of Mayking Cakes and Confections, their second location.
The NOTO Arts District is having a ribbon cutting for the new Veteran’s Park Entryway, which will feature the NOTO Market in this new location. Yeldarb is a gallery in a beautifully restored building.
“On behalf of the NOTO Board of Directors, we welcome these exciting new businesses to the NOTO Arts District,” said John Hunter and Anita Wolgast, co-chairs of the NOTO project. “it is so significant to have such high quality businesses joining the outstanding businesses already located in NOTO. Truly NOTO is ‘on the move’ as we also welcome two new business with ‘soft’ openings and look forward to their grand openings next month.”
NOTO is excited to welcome one of the newest additions, Gravity Gallery and Shops, a European-style gallery and market located at 822 1/2 N Kansas Ave. Gravity is a fun market of sorts that has a central gallery surrounded by retail spaces and studios.
Gravity Gallery and Shops will be open weekly: Wednesday 12:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Thursday 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Fridays 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with extended hours on First Friday, and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Tobias Designs is the first artist to join the Gravity family. Britta McKee has "fun, colorful, intriguing, and one-of-a-kind pieces" that have been a regular hit at Serendipity's First Fridays. Tobias Designs will be opening its doors as part of the Gravity Family and offer grand opening specials.

Mayking Cakes & Confections -- at 822 North Kansas is a full service artisan bakery, announces the grand opening of their second location on Friday at 4:00pm. Located in the heart of the NOTO Arts District, Mayking Cakes & Confections is proud to bring their unique artistic flair to the area. This new location will offer the same great sweet treats that customers have come to expect with a few new additions!
Offering over 100 distinct cupcake varieties, Cake Pops, cinnamon rolls, custom cakes, and a large selection of confectionary delights available by special order, Mayking Cakes & Confections will be adding their very own line of fresh, baked from scratch, artisan breads!
Veterans Park Entryway to the NOTO Arts District:
Ribbon cutting will be held at 5:00 at the east end of the entryway, just off of the 250-car parking lot at the back door (east) of the NOTO businesses of the 800 block of North Kansas Avenue.
County Commissioner Mary Thomas will participate in the Ribbon Cutting along with Shawnee County Parks and Recreation officials who oversee the park. First Friday Market vendors will be in place in the entryway, featuring Chef Kobe's street food.
Also present will be the NOTO Arts District board members and NOTO Market Steering Committee members.
"Yesterday Once More" will perform live. Their song list is a cross section of classic rock, pop, and R&B songs from the 60's on up to the present day. People are consistently surprised that a 3-piece band can sound as full as they do!
Ribbon Cutting for the Grand Opening of a new gallery in a 110-year old building, the Yeldarb Gallery, 909 North Kansas Avenue, will be at 6:00 p.m.
“We are thrilled and excited to be part of the NOTO Arts District,” said the Bradleys who previously worked as Information Technology Project Managers for Kansas Department of Transportation. “It has been a labor of love to restore this beautiful old building. We are working to preserve the integrity of the building and the neighborhood. We are especially proud of the beautiful tin ceiling and restored wooden floors.
The gallery will showcase an eclectic mix of art and antiques in a relaxed atmosphere. Featured artists in the Yeldarb Gallery include:
· Betsy Knabe Roe – fiber arts and watercolors;
· Alex Lancaster – airbrush art on canvas;
· Virginia Smith – landscapes and barns in watercolor;
· Jim Ginavan – Raku ceramics;
· Lisa Adame – abstract works in acrylic and mixed media;
· Richard Nelson - floral close-ups, landscapes, and historical buildings.
Entertainment for the Grand Opening will be provided by Kirk Drager and Jim Campbell. The acoustic folk and bluegrass music will begin at 5:30 that evening.
