Chocolate Strawberry Trifle
1 pkg. devil’s food cake mix (18.25 oz)
1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
1 cup water
1 pkg. instant vanilla pudding (3.4 oz)
2 cups whipped topping
2 tbs. orange juice
4 cups sliced fresh strawberries
Prepare and bake cake mix according to package directions. Cool cake completely, then crumble enough cake to measure 8 cups. (Reserve remaining cake for another use.) In a large mixing bowl, whisk together milk and water; add pudding mix. Using an electric mixer, beat on low speed for 2-3 minutes or until mixture is slightly thickened. Fold in whipped topping.
To assemble trifle, spread 2 ½ cups pudding mixture over bottom of a large trifle dish. (If trifle dish isn’t available, use a 4 qt glass bowl.) Top pudding with half of the crumbled cake; sprinkle cake with 1 tbs. orange juice. Arrange half of the strawberries over cake. Repeat pudding and cake layers; sprinkle with remaining tbs. orange juice. Top with remaining pudding mixture, placing just in the center. Spoon remaining strawberries around pudding mixture along edge of trifle dish. Cover and refrigerate overnight or until well chilled throughout.
