3 sweet bell peppers, red, yellow, orange, diced up, using approx. ½ cup of diced peppers total
3 green onions, diced up
1 ½ lbs. hamburger
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
¼ tsp. celery seed
¼ tsp. dried thyme
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. black pepper
Canadian bacon, 6 slices
Diced pepperoni, 6 Tbs.
12 fresh basil leaves
Black olives – 6 olives per patty
6 slices mozzarella cheese, cut in half to make 12 pieces.
In a large bowl, combine beef, Italian seasoning, thyme, salt, and pepper; add peppers and green onions. Divide meat mixture into 12 equal portions. Place hamburger patty on bottom. Put Canadian bacon on top of patty, then add 1 slice of cheese, 2 basil leaves, 6 sliced olives, 1 more slice of cheese, 1 Tbs. diced pepperoni. Place second hamburger patty over the top of all ingredients and press edges to seal.
For charcoal grill, arrange medium hot coals around a drip pan. Check for medium heat above the pan. Place burgers on grill rack over drip pan. Cover and grill for approx. 30 minutes or until done – 160 degrees F. at center of each burger. Top burgers with a dollop of spaghetti sauce and a sprinkle of grated parmesan cheese on top of that.
