Topeka (WIBW) - Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kansas, says health care reform is needed, just not in one fell swoop.
The House passed a health care reform bill over the weekend, but the issue is stalled in the Senate.
In a visit to 13 News Thursday, Roberts said Democrats want to vote on a measure that doesn't include details on issues like cost and regulations.
However, he says those who claim the GOP doesn't want reform are mistaken. He says there are things Republicans and Democrats agree on that should be done, along with fixing Medicare, rather than taking the giant leap toward what some view as a government takeover of health care.
Roberts also weighed in on President Obama asking his national security advisors to bring him new options for Afghanistan, in essence rejecting what's currently on the table.
Roberts says Obama's indecisiveness is endangering the support of allies and is stressful for the troops serving there.

It's frustrating isn't it Jake! You’d think people would wake up or at least think! My parents are at retirement age and I will be there soon enough. My grandfather had a bypass at 70yrs and lived another healthy 22yrs. If this goes through anyone approaching 60 or older might as well just forget getting any kind of medical help. All these health care systems do is help you die comfortably. The rest of us will just be waiting month’s maybe even a year to get the help we need. That's the other problem; it takes so long to get through the government hoops to get the medical help you need even if you do quality to get it. You could just as easily end up dead waiting to get it! People just need to get educated and quit thinking this wouldn't/couldn't happen to them. It's right on our doorstep and so many idiots just want to usher it right on in, makes you wonder if they would open the door and say come on in to someone holding a bloody machete. How blind can they be!
God help us if the mjaority of Americans are as mis-informed as sherry of mayetta is! Just this week, I personally spoke with a man visiting here from England. He said he was having symptoms of a heart attack. The ambulance crew asked if he was 56 or older. The man asked why they needed to know. Their answer, "By law, if you are 56 or older we can not treat your symptoms, we can ONLY make you comfortable." That rule and others are set by a government panel. That rule IS a death sentence for many older Europeans, hence the term "death panel". If government-run healthcare (IN ANY FORM) passes that exact same thing and worse WILL happen here. AND it won't matter whether people like sherry don't get it. IT WILL HAPPEN. Americans you had better wake up and call you representatives and DEMAND that they vote NO on any form of Obamacare.
Sherry, the "death panel" already exists. Money from the stimulus package create them. They’re researching the benefit received and comparing the cost. They will determine the benefit you receive and at what age, not you! The benefit received will also be based on your ability to contribute back to society. If you are 59 and need a bypass more than likely you will not get it because you are too old. If you are disabled you are in even worse shape because you "have even less" to contribute back to society. Blaming those holding this up is not the answer. They are trying to make sure that we all receive equal benefits and get this thing right. Once it’s in place it will be nearly impossible to change it. If you get glaucoma do you want to go blind in one eye before they help you with the other? This is how it works in other countries and our health care reform is being designed after theirs. They need to help those who need it and provide better controls to keep cost in check.
