(WIBW) - A conservative Senator from Oklahoma is backing Kansas Congressman Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, in his run for the Senate.

Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Oklahoma, announced his endorsement Tuesday.

Inhofe is a three-term Senator from Oklahoma known nationally for his strong support for Israel and his vocal opposition to climate change legislation, including the Cap-and-Tax bill currently before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

"There is a real battle going on in Washington.a philosophical battle between Nancy Pelosi and her Washington liberals, who want to tax and spend this country into deeper recession and mind-numbing debt and a group of conservatives who believe we must stop bailing-out Wall Street and start investing again in Main Street," Inhofe said. "Todd Tiahrt is one of those conservatives."

Tiahrt is trying win the Senate seat currently held by Sen. Sam Brownback. He faces fellow Congressman Jerry Moran in the Republican primary.

Tiahrt's other endorsements include former Sen. Rick Santorum, Congressman Mike Rogers, former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, former Congressman Jim Ryun, and conservative talk radio icon Mark Levin. Tiahrt also has the support of conservative groups Concerned Women for America, Kansans for Life, Family Research Council PAC and Eagle Forum.
