TOPEKA, Kan., (WIBW) _ State lawmakers are facing a big hole in the education budget.

Higher student enrollments across the state and lower property values than last year could lead to a $70 million shortfall, Deputy Education Commissioner Dale Dennis told the Associated Press.

Lawmakers have already cut per pupil aid to school districts nearly five percent this year so they could balance the budget. The new figures could lead to more cuts.
