Twenty years worth of racing at Heartland Park is the subject of tonight’s “On the Mark.” Having already entertained thousands in dozens of events already this season, between the drag strip, road course, and dirt track; over 60 events remain for this racing season. Not only is that amazing, but it should give everyone a chance to celebrate the anniversary. There are two dozen drag events ranging from what is called the “Fun and Grudge” to the “King of the Track” Finals. Twenty four dates are scheduled for the road course which includes a total of eight “Sports Car Club of America” events and the Richard Petty Driving School.
And, then there’s the dirt track which is the host of a dozen future events ranging from the “Star Spangled Modified Spectacular” to the September return of the “World of Outlaws”. Special events like today’s Hot Rod Tour only spice up the menu, not to mention the local economy. Drivers of the four thousand vehicles en route from Little Rock to Madison surely took some time to patronize an area business, motel or restaurant. All of which emphasizes the value that Heartland Park brings the area.
Supported by renovation and ambition, the track continues to out- perform pessimism and the high price of gasoline. Heartland Park is a busy place which is a great thing for all of us Topeka’s home for motor sports heads toward its 21st birthday and beyond. That’s “On the Mark”.
