Before we put the "Border Showdown" in the archives, I have some thoughts.
It’s the subject for tonight’s “On the Mark.” That Kansas went from the valley to the timberline faster than a rocket propelled ski lift is admirable.
A tip of the cap should be given to a talented coaching staff, and smart, motivated athletes. Now… for the next act.
In order to play in a B-C-S bowl game, Kansas needs Missouri to beat Oklahoma.
If not, then the Cotton Bowl would be a “thumbs up” destination. Beyond that… even if the Jayhawks had played in a similar game this season prior to Saturday, it would have been difficult to prepare for the atmosphere of Arrowhead.
But, scheduling a non-conference contest with a heavy weight in difficult circumstances would help Kansas gain that big game experience. The nervousness showed as the Jayhawks looked rattled early.
By the time Kansas settled in, it was too late.
I think Missouri’s series of games against Illinois played a significant role in helping get the Tigers accustomed to the surroundings.
Perhaps Kansas should look toward a series with Arkansas. As for Arrowhead, itself.
There likely isn’t a slicker grass surface anywhere.
And, is law enforcement directing traffic too much to hope for? I will say the showdown will go a long way in preparing the Jayhawks for the next big game, which may very well come sooner, rather than later. That’s “On the Mark”.
