How good is this Kansas football team? Revealing the Jayhawks is the subject for tonight’s “On the Mark”. Scoreboards say they're perfect, but the intangibles are typically the most telling sign of whether this squad is for real.
The word is that the Jayhawks celebrated their road win over Colorado for only about 15 minutes, and had calmed down well before they boarded the team busses for their flight home. For Jayhawk fans… that’s positively revealing. That Kansas is one of five undefeated teams left in college football is amazing.
That the Jayhawks are ninth in the B-C-S poll shows that the Jayhawks are in line for an historic season.
But… do I dare bring up history? Because Kansas doesn’t have enough of a resume’ in its football pedigree is reason number one why the nation’s college football experts are skeptical.
I personally remember the last time Kansas was seven and oh.
Somebody in the football program issued players these T-shirts which read… “Let’s run the table”… and guess what.
The Jayhawks were drubbed by K-State the very next week. That was 1995.
My read is that this Kansas team is better, because it’s more mature, it’s smarter, and it’s a lot tougher.
Having said all that, it will be a challenge to keep them grounded.
in a college football season where yes is no, and inside is out, the Jayhawks have put themselves in position for a curtain call. Winning in College Station, Texas this Saturday will really push the Jayhawks closer toward the front of the stage.
That’s “On the Mark”.
