The four-week long YWCA R.A.C.E. (resource and Advocacy for Change and Equity) Committee's Summer Diversity and Art Mural Project kicked off at Highland Park High School Wednesday.
By the time its done, organizers say more than 100 students from the Summer Education and Recreation Camp and the Highland Park High School will contribute to the mural.
"This project will give these students a sense of accomplishment partnered with a new appreciation for the arts," said Lover Chancler, YWCA Racial Justice Director.
The project is designed to show students from different backgrounds that their differences are assets when working together. Each week, the students will be exposed to different cultures, customs, and traditions while they work on the main mural.
Students will also work on an individual piece focused on "building bridges through cultural diversity.
