E-State To Face Augustana In DII Sweet-16

The Lady Hornets will be making their tenth trip to a regional final as they take on a Sweet 16 newcomer, #24 Augustana.

Jory Collins is 66-26 in his third year as the head coach of the Lady Hornets and has guided them to the MIAA Tournament Championship Game three straight years, with a win this season. He has 11 wins against Top 25 teams. This is his 12th season on the Lady Hornet coaching staff and Emporia State has advanced to the NCAA tournament in 11 of those seasons. He is 4-1 in the NCAA Tournament and 11-3 in March Tournaments. This is his first meeting with Augustana.
Dave Krauth is 491-215 in his 24th season at Augustana. He has a 6-12 record in the NCAA Tournament. This is his first meeting with Emporia State.

Emporia State overcame an 11 point halftime deficit to post a 69-67 victory over #17 Minnesota State-Mankato in the NCAA Division II Central Regional Semifinals. With the Lady Hornets holding a one point lead, Merissa Quick was fouled after getting a defensive rebound with 20.9 seconds left. She hit one of two free throws for a 69-67 lead. Alli Hoefer missed a three-pointer with 12 seconds left. Jamelia Hudnell got the rebound and tried for the put back, but missed and Haley Parker secured the rebound. Laura Patrick led Emporia State with 18 points and nine rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Rheanna Egli and Rachel Hanf with 13 each and Jocelyn Cummings with ten points.

Emporia State is 23-8 on the year and were 13-5 in the MIAA. The Lady Hornets have won seven straight games with five of the wins against teams ranked in the Top 25 at the time. This is the 15th trip to the NCAA Tournament for the Lady Hornets and they are 30-13 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.

Augustana is 26-6 on the year and went 16-6 in the Northern Sun. They are the #6 seed in the regional, but are ranked in the top ten in the nation in six categories. They are second in the nation in assist to turnover ratio, eighth in field goal percentage defense and ninth in scoring. The Vikings have started the same five players in every game this season and are led by Alex feeney at 14.1 points and 7.2 points per game.

The series is tied at a game apiece with Emporia State winning 73-72 in White Auditorium during the 1982-83 season and Augie winning 92-72 in Sioux Falls during the 1984-85 season.

The Lady Hornets travelled to Sioux Falls, S.D. and fell 92-72 to the host Vikings by 20 points, 92-72.

The winner advances to the Elite Eight and will play the winner of the Southeast Regional final between #1 Clayton State and #9 Limestone. Tip-off for the Elite Eight from San Antonio's Bill Greehey Arena is set for 11:00 a.m, on March 26.
