MIAA Men's Basketball Readies For Week Nine

Kansas City, Mo. -- A full week of MIAA men's basketball gets kicked off tonight as the season rolls into week nine.

Upcoming MIAA Previews:
Central Missouri looks to pick up third MIAA victory
Last Week: 1/2 d. SBU 74-64
Upcoming: 1/9 vs. NSU 7:30 p.m.; 1/12 vs. PSU 3:30 p.m.
Central Missouri will look to pick up their third win in conference play as they open week nine at home. The Mules are led by Dominique Long who is averaging 14.6 points per game. Charles Hammork is averaging 10.8 points, Widgett Washington 10.2 points and Reggie Stallings 10.1 points per game this season.

Central Oklahoma looks to build on big win
Last Week: 1/3 l. to MWSU 78-77; 1/5 d. #8 WU 72-67
Upcoming: 1/10 at TSU 7:30 p.m.; 1/12 at LWU 3:30 p.m.
Central Oklahoma will look to build on a upset win over #8 Washburn as they head into week nine. The Bronchos are led by Josh Gibbs who is averaging 14.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Spencer Smith is averaging 13.1 points and 5.4 boards per game on the season.

Hornets looking to bounce back
Last Week: 1/2 l. to #8 WU 61-54; 1/5 l. to FHSU 79-76 OT
Upcoming: 1/8 at SBU 7:30 p.m.; 1/12 at TSU 3 p.m.
Emporia State will look to bounce back from back-to-back losses to open 2013 as they hit the road. The Hornets are led by Kaleb Wright who averages 16.1 points per game and 4.7 rebounds. Paul Bunch is averaging 11.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game on the season.

Fort Hays State look to return to winning ways after streak is snapped

Upcoming: 1/10 vs. #13 WU 7:30 p.m.
Fort Hays State will return home for two in week nine after opening 2013 on the road. The Tigers are led by Dwayne Brunson who is averaging 15.1 points and 8.3 boards per game. Lance Russell is averaging 13.6 points and Ben Congiusta 13.5 points per game.

Lincoln look to snap losing streak
Last Week: 1/3 l. to TSU 84-64; 1/5 l. to SBU 81-74
Upcoming: 1/10 vs. PSU 7:30 p.m.; 1/12 vs. MSSU 3:30 p.m.
Lincoln will look to snap a five game losing streak as they close out a three-game homestand. The Blue Tigers are led by Cedric Ridle with 18.5 points and 6.2 boards while Charles Cole is averaging 13.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season.

Lindenwood tries to push four game winning streak
Last Week: 1/2 d. Webster 96-65; 1/5 d. TSU 96-82
Upcoming: 1/10 vs. MSSU 7:30 p.m.; 1/12 vs. UCO 3 p.m.
Lindenwood will look to improve on a four game winning streak that included picking up their first MIAA victory. The Lions are led by Alex Bazzell who is averaging 17.0 points per game and Richie Thompson with 11.5 points and 6.4 boards per game.

Missouri Southern looks to continue winning ways
Last Week: 1/3 l. to NWMSU 69-68 OT; 1/5 d. MWSU 96-69

Missouri Southern has won four of their last five with their only loss coming in overtime to Northwest Missouri. The Lions are led by MIAA Athlete of the Week Marquis Addison who is averaging 17.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Missouri Western travels to Nebraska-Kearney to open week nine
Last Week: 1/3 d. UCO 78-77; 1/5 l. to MSSU 95-69
Upcoming: 1/9 at UNK 7:30 p.m.; 1/12 vs. #24 NWMSU 3:30 p.m.
Missouri Western went 1-1 last week in MIAA play and will travel to UNK before returning home to face NWMSU. The Griffons are led by Cedric Clinkscales who is averaging 15.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest this season.

Nebraska-Kearney opens three game homestand
Last Week: 12/30 d. South Dakota Mines 86-74; 1/3 l. to PSU 76-62; 1/5 d. NSU 60-57

Northeastern State will open a three game road trip as they turn the corner into week nine. The RiverHawks are led by Bryton Hobbs with 16.2 points per game and Jermaine Bransford with 15.4 points and 9.2 rebounds per contest this season.

#24 Northwest Missouri travels to MWSU in week nine
Last Week: 12/29 d. Cen. Methodist 79-59; 1/3 d. MSSU 69-68 OT; 1/5 d. PSU 62-51

Northwest Missouri will travel to MWSU in their only action of week nine. The Bearcats are led by Dillon Starzl with 14.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest and DeAngelo Hailey with 14.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest on the year.

Pittsburg State travels for three straight
Last Week: 1/3 d. UNK 76-62; 1/4 l. to NWMSU 62-51

Pittsburg State will open week nine on a three-game road trip. The Gorillas are led by Kaleb Porter who is averaging 15.8 points and JaVon McGee who is averaging 7.8 rebounds per contest.
