MIAA Men's Basketball Turns Corner Into League Play

Kansas City, Mo. -- MIAA play will begin for the men's basketball teams as the roll into week five.

Upcoming MIAA Previews:
Central Missouri ready to begin MIAA play
Last Week: 11/28 d. Quincy 77-59
Upcoming: 12/5 at FHSU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 vs. ESU 3:30 p.m.
Central Missouri will enter the MIAA season 4-1 after picking up a win over Quincy. They are led by Dominique Long who is averaging 13.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Charles Hammork is averaging 10.4 points per game and Lance Beckwith and Matt Webb are leading the team with 5.4 boards per game.

Central Oklahoma looking to bounce back
Last Week: 11/27 l. to Oklahoma Christian 80-78
Upcoming: 12/6 UCO at PSU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 at SBU 7:30 p.m.
Central Oklahoma will look to get back into the win column as they begin MIAA Play this week. They are led by Spencer Smith who is averaging 14.0 points per game and 5.7 rebounds. Josh Gibbs enters the week averaging 13.2 points and 6.0 boards per game while Jamell Cormier is averaging 10.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest.

Emporia State opens MIAA season at NSU
Last Week: 11/27 l. to Newman 69-62 (OT)
Upcoming: 12/5 at NSU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 at UCM 3:30 p.m.
Emporia State will look to bounce back from an overtime loss on the road at Newman as they enter MIAA play. They are led by Kaleb Wright who is averaging 19.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Gavin Brown is leading the team on the boards averaging 7.8 rebounds per game.

Fort Hays State opens league play in week nine
Last Week: 11/28 d. Central Christian 94-39
Upcoming: 12/5 vs. UCM 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 at MWSU 3:30 p.m.
Fort Hays State bounced back with a big win last week as the prepare for week five and MIAA play. They are led by Dwayne Brunson who is averaging 17.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Lance Russell is averaging 13.2 points and 6.4 boards per game.

Lincoln looks to bounce back on MIAA TV
Last Week: 12/1 l. to Missouri St. Louis 81-71
Upcoming: 12/5 at UNK 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 vs. NSU (MIAA TV) 3:07 p.m.
Lincoln will look to bounce back as they enter MIAA play during week five. They are led by Cedric Ridle who is averaging 18.4 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Charles Cole is averaging 14.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest.

Lindenwood looks to shake off first loss
Last Week: 11/28 d. William Woods 93-58; 12/1 l. to Quincy 81-74
Upcoming: 12/5 at #12 NWMSU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 vs. PSU 3 p.m.
Lindenwood will look to bounce back after suffering their first loss as they open MIAA play on the road at #12 NWMSU. They are led by Alex Bazell who is averaging 18.4 points and Richie Thompson with 9.2 rebounds per game.

Missouri Southern opens MIAA play on the road
Last Week: 12/1 d. Arkansas Tech 58-50
Upcoming: 12/4 vs. Central Bible 7 p.m.; 12/8 at Truman 3 p.m.
Missouri Southern will open the 2012-13 MIAA Campaign on the road at Truman before taking a long break with their next action coming on Jan. 3. They are led by Marquis Addison who is averaging 16.9 points and Jordan Talbert with 7.4 rebounds per game.

Missouri Western opens MIAA play at home
Last Week: 12/1 d. Illinois-Springfield 61-50
Upcoming: 12/5 vs. TSU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 vs. FHSU 3:30 p.m.
Missouri Western will take a 4-2 record into a duo of home matches to open MIAA play. They are led by Cedric Clinkscales with 15.5 points and Dzenana Mrkaljevic with 7.7 rebounds per game this season.

Nebraska-Kearney awaits MIAA play

Upcoming: 12/5 vs. LU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 at #12 NWMSU 3:30 p.m.
Nebraska-Kearney will open MIAA play at home before hitting the road for NWMSU for game two in the league. They are led by Jon Henderson who is averaging 20.0 points per game. Mike Dentlinger is averaging 12.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest.

Northeastern State looks to bounce back against ESU
Last Week: 11/29 l. to Harding 65-63
Upcoming: 12/5 vs. ESU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 at LU (MIAA TV) 3:07 p.m.
Northeastern State will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season as they host Emporia State. They are led by Bryton Hobbs who is averaging 17.3 points per game. Jermaine Bransford is averaging 14.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest.

#12 Northwest Missouri looks to stay perfect as MIAA play begins
Last Week: 12/1 d. York 80-69
Upcoming: 12/5 vs. LWU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 vs. UNK 3:30 p.m.
#12 Northwest Missouri takes their perfect record into league play as they open against Lindenwood. They are led by Dillon Starzl who is averaging 15.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Pittsburg State 5-1 heading into MIAA play
Last Week: 11/28 d. William Jewell 74-69
Upcoming: 12/6 vs. UCO 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 at LWU 3 p.m.
Pittsburg State will take a 5-1 record in to MIAA play starting in week five. They are led by Kaleb Porter averaging 17.8 points per game. Courtney Ingram is averaing 11.5 points and A.J. Adams with 10.0 points per contest.

Southwest Baptist takes the week off
Last Week: Did not play
Upcoming: 12/6 at #2 WU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 vs. UCO 7:30 p.m.
Southwest Baptist will look to get back into the swing of things as MIAA play begins in week five. They are led by Preston Guiot who is averaging 11.4 points per game. Jaywuan Hill leads the team with 4.7 rebounds per game.

Truman returns looks to continue winning ways
Last Week: 11/28 d. Grand View 71-61
Upcoming: 12/5 at MWSU 7:30 p.m.; 12/8 vs. MSSU 3 p.m.
Truman has won two of it’s last three and will look to keep things going as MIAA play begins. They are led by Mike Carlson with 15.8 points and Marek Bush with 7.2 rebounds per game this season.

#2 Washburn looks to stay perfect
Last Week: 12/1 d. Bellevue 94-55
Upcoming: 12/6 vs. SBU 7:30 p.m.
#2 Washburn takes a perfect 6-0 record into MIAA play. They are led by back to back MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week Will McNeill who is averaging 21.0 points per game and Bobby Chipman with 8.2 boards per contest.
