LU's Lewis, ESU's Ploude Earn MIAA T&F Weekly Honors

Kansas City, Mo. -- Lincoln's Romel Lewis was named the MIAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Emporia State's Briar Ploude earned MIAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week for week five.

Lewis won the 60-meter dash at the Iowa State Holiday Preview on Friday posting an automatic qualifier time of 6.73 beating out 15 other runners. He also won the preliminary round of the 60-meter, finishing ahead of 36 others athletes. He also helped the 4x300m relay team take second behind only Division I Iowa State. At the Bob Timmons Challenge on Thursday, Lewis placed second in the 200-meter, finishing with a provisional qualifying time of 21.49 in the race. The junior sprinter is a transfer from Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Others nominated: Deneko Brown, Southwest Baptist; Andrew Etheridge, Emporia State; Jeff Fraley, Missouri Southern; Cornell Leffler, Nebraska-Kearney; Rodney Mays, LIndenwood; Ryan Peterson, Truman; Eli Smith, Northwest Missouri.

MIAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Briar Ploude, Emporia State
Ploude won the high jump at KSU All-Comers with an automatic qualifying height of 7-2.5 (2.20m) in his first competition since ankle surgery over the summer. It ties his own school record and is ranked first in the nation in Division II this year. It is the second best collegiate jump in the nation so far this season behind Kris Kornegay-Gober of North Carolina State. The senior high jumper is a native of Meridan, Kan. and competed at Jefferson West High School.
