A Topeka man is dead after being shot in the stomach Wednesday night.

The shooting occured shortly after 5:30pm Wednesday at 417 NE Lake.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired and found 37 year old Shawn Koss of Topeka conscious but injured at the scene.

Topeka Police believe an altercation between Koss and another male known to him ensued prior to the shooting.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the case, including whether self-defense may be a factor.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Several witnesses were brought to police headquarters for questioning.
