KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ A Kansas soldier was found guilty
yesterday of raping and attacking a woman with a knife in Kansas
City in 2004.
Thirty-seven-year-old James D. Baldwin of Olathe is also accused
of attacking two other women. But jurors were not told about those
allegations during Baldwin's trial this week.
A judge has ruled that the incidents be tried separately.
Baldwin was serving with the U.S. Army in Iraq, but the military
ordered him returned. The Army notified police after finding that
Baldwin had lied about his arrest record on an application.
DNA linked Baldwin to the attack that led to yesterday's
conviction. The woman who was attacked was working as a prostitute.
Baldwin's sentencing is tentatively set for January eleventh.
