TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Kansas' largest electric utility is taking bids on contracts for an additional 200 megawatts of electricity from renewable resources such as wind.

Topeka-based Westar Energy Inc. says it is looking to buy the power from renewable energy developers.

Westar says that as part of the deal, it will offer part of its rights to a site for a wind farm east of Dodge City. The contractor chosen by Westar could then develop the site to supply the energy.

The company is taking proposals through Sept. 2. It expects to announce its selection in November or December.
