TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) - A house fire at 9:20 Tuesday morning near 12th and Western, appears to have been electrical, according to fire officials.

The first fire company on the scene reported heavy smoke and was told there were people inside. Those three people made it out of the house uninjured.

Fire officials say the fire was mainly contained to the attic. Although it seemed small in nature, at one point there were as many as six fire companies on the scene.

"I called in additional companies to take care of duties relating to the weather, relating to our air bottles and fire fighter safety," said Capt. Nix on the scene.

Crews spent time looking for hot spots after the fire was extinguished. An investigator responded to find an official cause of the fire.

Nix said, "Other than it being so cold out, it's really kind of run-of-the-mill for us."
