Topeka (WIBW) - Shawnee County Commissioners approved a zoning change which would allow for commercial development at 10th and Auburn Road.

The land was rezoned from a residential reserve district to planned unit development.

David and Monica Matchett sought the change so they could sell the land to Mike Higgins of Higgins Stone. Higgins plans to work out of the back of the property and will let the market dictate how the rest develops.

When making their case for the change, the Matchetts pointed out this wasn't the first offer they had to develop the land. However, they said they'd been considering what would be of added benefit to the area and to the county.

The measure passed two to nothing. Commissioner Ted Ensley not in attendance while he recuperates from surgery.
