TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)_ A Kansas State Senator announced he still plans on trying to eliminate state funding for Planned Parenthood. Sen. Tim Huelskamp (R-Fowler) called such efforts a way to establish a responsible threshold for spending public dollars.

"This is the right thing to do," Huelskamp said. "Organizations that perform abortions and fail to report sexual abuse of young girls should never receive taxpayer subsidies. This flies in the face of basic Kansas values."

Huelskamp said he helped lead last year's effort in the Kansas Legislature to withdraw funding. The plan passed the legislature, but was vetoed by Gov. Mark Parkinson.

According to Huelskamp, Planned Parenthood received $1.2 million in state money over the past four years, buoyed by a 23% increase in funding from 2008 to 2009.

"Continuing to fund Planned Parenthood is every bit as embarrassing as funding ACORN," Huelskamp added. "We need to get serious and let them know that they are no longer welcome at the public trough."

wolfman, You missed the point. Planned parenthood is the number one cause of death in the minority community in America, and the tax payers are funding it. Several years ago, PP started to close clinics that don't provide abortion - that's where they make their money. Look at their annual financial statements. You also ignore the well documentated cases where PP refuses to report statutory rape and even accepts donations from people who only what to $ to be used to abort minority children. (See the videos on Foxwnews and Youtube) If this is an organization you want to help fund, your priorities as sadly out of line. I'm not telling someone else not to have the abortion. I am just saying, don't use forced taxes to pay for them.
