Topeka (WIBW) - A Bonner Springs woman doesn't mind a few snowflakes.
The Kansas Lottery announced 54-year old Charlene Knernschield won a $10,000 prize playing Snowflake Bingo, one of the Kansas Lottery’s $2 holiday instant scratch games.
Knerschield says she has her daughter to thank for making her a winner.
“Kristi and my other daughter Keri stopped at a store on Christmas Day, and Kristi bought me a dozen $2 Snowflake Bingo tickets as a present,” Knernschield said. “She knows I love those bingo tickets.”
The day after Christmas, Knernschield and her husband Terry went out for dinner, and she took one of the tickets along to scratch it while they were waiting for their food.
“I kept uncovering more bingos and then hitting the corners, and eventually I ended up with a $10,000 ticket!” she said. “Nothing like this ever happens to us, so we were quite shocked.”
Knernschield said her daughter Kristi cried when her mom called to give her the good news.
Knernschield and her husband don't know yet how they will spend the prize money. Terry got laid off from his job with Yellow Roadway Corporation this year, so the win has come at a good time. Charlene works at Kendal King Group in the Kansas City Metro area.
The lucky $2 Snowflake Bingo ticket was purchased at Discount Smokes, located at 13010 Kansas Avenue in Bonner Springs.
