TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)_ Treasurer Larry Wilson told Shawnee County Commissioners that his office could not meet a state mandated reporting deadline.

Wilson said the responsibilities for preparing a financial report for the cities, townships, and school districts was taken away from his office before he was elected treasurer.

He says an informal agreement shifted the duty to the Financial Administrator and Information Technology departments, but he could not find a document to support his claim.

Commissioner Vic Miller called the confusion another reason the treasurer should be an appointed position with defined responsibilities.

Also Thursday, the Commission bid a fond farewell to Norine Staab. She is retiring from the Elections Office after nearly forty years and around a hundred elections.
