(WIBW) - The state is moving up the timeline on incentives in hopes of landing a new office project in Kansas City, Kansas.
Gov. Mark Parkinson announced Tuesday that Commerce Secretary Bill Thornton has offered to present Cerner Corporation $47 million in incentives for their office project immediately, "so there are no delays in this critical creation of jobs."
Cerner, a health information technology company, wants to build a new office complex and a soccer stadium for the Kansas City Wizards, a deal Missouri is also trying to land.
“As companies and businesses begin to regain their strength, making new hires is often one of the last steps they take on the path to recovery. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate continues to be too high, with too many Kansans out of work," Parkinson said. "That’s why we’ve continued to aggressively pursue an opportunity with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Cerner Corporation to bring 4,500 new jobs to Kansas."
Parkinson has said that any officers made to Cerner will be done while protecting the best interests of taxpayers.
