(WIBW) - A Kansas City-area state Senator is stepping down, citing unspecified family concerns.
Sen. David Wysong, R-Mission Hills, last day in office will be Dec. 13.
Wysong is chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee.
"I have enjoyed my public life experience but it is actually past time for this decision," Wysong said in a statement. "I have met some amazing people along the way. Very, very smart people who only have one thing in mind and that is to help the people of Johnson County and the State of Kansas."
Chairman of the Johnson County Republican Party Ronnie Metsker says precinct committee members will meet soon to name a replacement.
In addition to the Kansas Senate, Wysong has also served as a Mission Hills City Councilman, Johnson County Commissioner and Chairman of the Johnson County Republican Party.
