(WIBW) - A group of Kansas Air National Guardsmen are expected home from Saudi Arabia Monday.

A ceremony is planned at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita for the
approximately 42 members of the 184th Intelligence Wing Security Forces. It is planned for 3 pm in Building 36. Friends, family and public are invited to attend.

“It’s a great honor to welcome home our airmen,” said Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the adjutant general. “Getting these great men and women back home to their family and friends is part of the mission and I couldn’t be prouder of their job well done.”

The Security Forces members are returning home after a six-month tour in Saudi Arabia. While overseas, the airmen served in a variety of roles, including maintaining perimeter integrity and security, overseeing access on and off of the installation and maintaining the quick reaction force and law enforcement patrols.

The 184th Intelligence Wing is the first intelligence wing of the Air National Guard. The men and women of the 184th deliver near real-time intelligence around the globe to our nation's war fighters.

The 184th has served a variety of missions in years past. The wing began as the 127th Observations Squadron in 1941. In following years, the 184th would be known as the 127th Fighter Squadron, 137th Fighter Bomber Wing, 127th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, 184th Tactical Fighter Group, 184th Tactical Fighter Training Group, 184th Bomb Group, 184th Bomb Wing and 184th Air Refueling Wing. The unit was activated to federal service during World War II, the Korean War Conflict, and the Vietnam War Conflict. Members of the 184th have also served in Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The 184th Intelligence Wing has been honored with four USAF Outstanding Unit Awards for exceptionally meritorious service.
