WHITING -- Jackson County's Whiting Bank will close its doors in January 2010. United Bank of Kansas President John Geiger notified his customers the bank will be consolidating its assets with the branch bank in Horton. The starting date of the change is January 29th.
Geiger told 13 News Tuesday that high FDIC insurance premiums, with only about five to eight transactions a day and numerous problems with the building's structure led to their decision to move.
Geiger says he fully understands the concerns about shutting down a bank branch, but that the consolidation will make them a more efficient banking operation next year.
