(WIBW) - A former postal worker was sentenced to two years probation and fined $5,000 for stealing from the mail.
53-year old Rhonda Basgall pleased guilty to one count of theft by a postal employee. In her plea, she admitted that on Dec. 22, 2008, a woman in Great Bend mailed a Christmas card with three Walmart gift cards to her sister in California. The cards had a value of $60. Basgall stole the cards and, later that day, used the cards to make purchases at Walmart.
U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch commended the U.S. Postal Service and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Metzger for their work on the case.

amazing as it is... lady with 11 charges against her in Carey Ohio got 2 yrs and 4 months and will end up doing a little over a yr. Kinda tells us who we can trust when it comes to the mail. Carriers got less charges then if someone walking down the street starving did it.

OMG .... and why wouldn't she be a "former" postal employee after stealing someone's mail. Isn't tampering with the US mail a felony? Do you want your mail carrier to be a convicted criminal? Not only should she be a "former" postal employee -- she should be behind bars!

By what mechanism did she become a "former" postal employee? Did she resign? Arbitration? Please post details.
