Topeka (WIBW) - Some authors were honored for making the Sunflower State proud.
First Lady Stacy Parkinson helped present the 2009 Notable Books Medals Tuesday at the Kansas Statehouse.
The awards recognize authors from Kansas, or those who've written about Kansas.
Authors of fifteen books were selected for this year's awards.
They're given by the State Library of Kansas and the Kansas Center for the Book.
State Library officials say the awards honor Kansas authors or authors who've written books about the state. They say Kansas is fortunate to have a rich literary heritage, fueled by talented Kansas authors and individuals who are fascinated by the geographical and environmental aspects of Kansas.
Authors expected to attend the ceremony are RoxAnn Banks Dicker, Kathleen Johnson, Elizabeth Bunce, Bob Gress, Pete Janzen, Cynthia Harris, Jane Rhoads, Barbara Brackman, Rolf Potts, Beverley Worster, Donald Worster and Richard Wood.
