KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ The Kickapoo and Iowa tribes in Kansas
will get federal stimulus money to improve access to safe water.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday that tribes across the country will receive $90 million for infrastructure projects.
The Kickapoo Tribe will get $111,360 for drinking and wastewater improvements. The Iowa Tribe in Kansas and Nebraska will get

Nearly 10 percent of homes in tribal communities lack access to safe drinking water compared with less than 1 percent in non-Native communities.
The nationwide funding provides for 95 wastewater and 64 drinking water projects. The Navajo Nation, which extends into New Mexico, Utah and Arizona, will receive the largest chunk with $13.3 million.
