WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A Wichita man has been convicted of first-degree murder in last year's death of an 18-month-old girl in his care.

A jury in Sedgwick County District Court deliberated about three hours Monday before convicting 24-year-old Jonell Lloyd. He faces up to life in prison. Sentencing is set for Aug. 19.

Chavira Brown was found dead last August in the attic of Lloyd's Wichita home. The toddler's body had been placed in two trash bags that were stuffed into a sofa cushion.

Lloyd fled and was found three days after Chavira's body was found. He had considered the little girl his daughter and was caring for her while her mother had surgery.
