Topeka, KANSAS (WIBW) -- State budget cuts will have a big impact on K-through-12 education. It will be cut by $39 Million in Kansas. It brings the per-student numbers to 2006 funding levels.

Educators are faced with possibly having larger class sizes and fewer dollars, something they fear could hurt student achievement.

School districts across the state are trying to avoid cutting people, or doing anything that would have a negative impact on student achievement. They do feel, however, that higher funds go hand-in-hand with higher achievement.

Topeka 501 anticipated $2.5 Million in cuts, but must now find an additional $500,000.

Keep the teachers and trim down the number of aides and secretaries. Superintendents should take a cut in pay along with a few principals. Leave the teachers alone!

It is hard to see the School of the Blind being cut money ($132,477) and the School for the Deaf ($196,395) being cut money. It always seems the most vulnerable have to take the hit over people who could pay taxes, but just don't want it. I bet they can see their ballots, and hear the news reports. Americans are in a sad, selfish state of mind.
